Shorthorn sires this year include AI sires, Bayview Archer and Polldale Neat. Legs on the ground are Hinewaka Gold 71/18 and Longview Meatpacker 16062.
Archer is ranked in the top 1% of bulls across multiple breeds in Australia, USA and Canada for Marbling, All Purpose Index (like our Self replacing index where heifers are retained) and Terminal Index (used as a terminal sire). He is in the top 2% for Calving Ease, top 5% for Maternal Calving Ease, top 10% for Birth weight and Yearling weight, top 15% for Weaning weight. He is an absolute curve bender, producing outstanding growth from small birth weights.
Neat also has excellent growth, top 4% and 5% for weaning weight and yearling weight respectively. Top 10% for the Terminal Index and top 15% for Maternal Weaning weight (kgs weaned per cow). This is measured in the same multibreed, multi country evaluation as Archer.
Hinewaka Gold 71/18 we bought in 2020, he is a huge bull so if you're looking for size, there are some big genetics there. He is throwing growth, fat and carcase weight. Top 1% for 200, 400, 600 day weights, carcase weight and IMF (marbling). Top 5% Eye Muscle Area, top 10% for rib fat and top 15% Self Replacing Index. These are NZ Shorthorn EBVs, same evaluation tool that we have for our bulls.
Longview Meatpacker 16062 offers lower birth weights and more colour. He is top 1% of the breed for Scrotal Size, top 5% Days to Calving so some excellent fertility traits there, along with top 5% for Retail Beef Yield.
The registered Shorthorn bulls have Breedplan EBV's and I have included some raw data as well. Please bear in mind that you can use the raw data to compare Glenrossie bulls to Glenrossie bulls, not to any other bulls, Shorthorn or otherwise. Different studs weigh and scan their bulls at different times to us so make sure you are comparing apples with apples.
Date for the sale is 21st of June, this will be a hybrid sale, held on farm and online via bidr. Feel free to contact us if you would like to see the bulls in the flesh before the sale, or if you have any inquiries or questions.
